We all know the expression ‘good vibes’ even if we’re not old enough to remember the Beach Boys song in the 70’s! Both this phrase and the expression ‘raising your vibration’ are simple ways or reminding us that despite appearances, we are not solid and fixed physical creatures, we are in fact fluid, energetic and constantly changing beings.

The physics bit…

The vibrational perspective is scientifically backed up through quantum physics which has proved that we are made up more of space than anything else. It also concurs with the Latin etymology of the word ‘person’ which breaks down into per meaning ‘through’ and son meaning ‘sound’. Put together, the word person roots back to a meaning of ‘through sound’.

Vibrations in us

So what does this take on our reality actually mean for us? In the same way that sound and light waves have vibrations that can be measured, every thought and feeling that we have can also be measured along a vibrational scale. Feelings such as anger, fear and despair sit more heavily at one end, whereas emotions such as love, appreciation and joy sit very lightly at the other end. If we want to genuinely feel happier in our lives, attain our goals and attract positive relationships then it makes sense to raise our vibrations from one end of the scale to the other.

It sounds simple, and in many ways it is. The process involves becoming as aware of our thoughts and feelings as possible, and making conscious choices about what we put into our minds and bodies. Like us, everything in life is made up of energy and therefore everything has a vibrational element to it. Music, books, television, food and every conversation that we have carries a vibrational message that will impact on how we feel and what we experience. The higher up the scale we go, the clearer we feel and the more connected to intuition and inner guidance we become.

The simplest and most direct activities that will raise your vibration are meditation, affirmations, doing things that you naturally enjoy and that make you happy and becoming conscious of how you think, speak and act. Becoming aware of what you have around you in your home and how it makes you feel will also help you to move away from lower emotional and mental states.

Take control

Living your life in this way is extremely empowering and will take you out of the role of victim who is either blaming someone else for their situation or waiting to be rescued by the elusive prince or princess! It will not necessarily change overnight but as you regularly repeat your intention to shift your vibration up the scale you will steadily take steps to do so.
