Blogging is a fabulous hobby. It’s an incredible way of connecting with the entire world to communicate your message. Whether you wish to blog for personal reasons or commercial reasons, having your own space to fill as you please is extremely rewarding.

How to start a blog

Starting a free blog is easy. There are platforms set up such as Tumblr and Google BlogSpot that will guide you through the process of making a blog and filling it with content. They’ll provide you with instruction guides as well as give you their contact details should you need more help.

If you’re looking for something more, you always have the option of hosting your own blog. You could purchase your own web domain and use your site to chronicle your wisdom. Alternatively, you can host your blog on your company website, and use it as a form of marketing.

It’s not quite as easy as it sounds

The challenge that usually awaits most bloggers is gaining readership. There are around 152 million blogs on the internet at the time of writing, and that number is growing rapidly. While it’s nice that it’s easy to start a blog, it does open the door for some rather fierce competition.

Thankfully, there are ways to get your blog to stand out from the crowd. The secret is in the blog set up itself.

What does the world want

Before you blog, you want to make sure you can communicate with the widest possible audience. Readership is the aim of the game after all. When you’ve decided on your niche (the topic you’ll be writing about the most) use the Google Keywords Tool to search for your niche term. This will return a range of search terms that have been input by regular people, looking for a website with a theme like yours. Now you have a good idea for possible blog post subjects.

Prepare for success

Your blog is now your baby. You can shape it and style it in any way that you choose.

By now, you should have a really good idea about what kind of niche you want to be a part of (If any) and a good idea about what type of blog posts you should be uploading.

If you do, it’s time to let your fingers do the talking. Bloggers are usually very creative people. With a little practice, you’ll find you write some pretty great content for your blog

But you must make sure it’s of the highest quality. Proof read your work before posting. Spelling errors, grammar errors and poor English make you look unprofessional and make your blog look unappealing. So do incorrect facts and poor writing styles.

Get seen

BloggingNow you’ve penned your content and uploaded it, you just need people to view it. All bloggers need their blogs to be seen. They can’t take off otherwise. It can be extremely frustrating to see just a couple (or even zero) people interested in your blog.

To be seen, you first have to be found. A large amount of the traffic your blog receives will come from search engines. To ensure Google and the gang can send internet users to your blog, they first need to know what you’re about. That’s why keywords are important. Keywords will allow everybody who wants to, to find your blog page.

You should already know your keywords from when you run a search for them on the Google Keyword Tool. By placing them in your posts occasionally, you tell the internet what you’re about, and help them find you.

Other little tips and tricks to getting seen

Bloggers are lovers of great content, even if they didn’t write it. One of the best ways to get noticed is to have your work shared by an already established blogger. This will bring you a world of attention, and increase your followers over night. But, it can only happen if your work is good, so take note.

After you’ve been blogging for a while, you can offer to write a post on somebody else’s blog as a guest. This will also provide similar results.

If your content is good, you want as many people as possible to see it. If you post it on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest etc., it gives you access to a whole new group of people that can see and then perhaps share your blog content. The is one technique for going viral.

However you use your blog, you’ll have a great deal of fun. It’ll give you the chance to say things that you may not have gotten to say otherwise. As you go along, you’ll see for yourself what a great way it is to reach new customers and even better; new friends.
