Disney announces Ducktales comeback!

First it was Inspector Gadget then Dangermouse and now late ‘80s/early ‘90s cartoon DuckTales is to receive the reboot treatment.

Disney announced this week that the popular Emmy Award-winning animated show is to make a comeback on its Disney XD channel in 2017.

Characters

The original cartoon followed the adventures of the wealthy Scrooge McDuck and his mischievous grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie as well as the iconic Donald Duck, who will all return in the reboot. Other characters including Duckworth, Gyro Gearloose, Launchpad McQuack, Flintheart Glomgold, Magica DeSpell & Poe, Ma Beagle and the Beagle Boys (Burger Beagle, Bouncer Beagle), Mrs. Beakley and Webbigail Vanderquack are also set to feature in the new series.

Ducktails Movie

DuckTales originally aired from 1987 to 1990 running to 100 episodes and also spawned a movie spin-off called DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp. Parents who grew up in that era will no doubt be keen to share one of their favourite cartoons with their own children.

New generation

“DuckTales has a special place in Disney’s TV animation history, it drew its inspiration from Disney Legend Carl Barks’ comic books and through its storytelling and artistic showmanship, set an enduring standard for animated entertainment that connects with both kids and adults,” said Marc Buhaj, senior vice president, programming and general manager at Disney XD. “Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation.”

Original DuckTales still available

2017 does seem a long way off and if you really can’t wait until then to introduce your kids to Uncle Scrooge or you just fancy a trip down memory lane, the original series is currently available to view on the Watch Disney Channel app.
