Have you got a negative pregnancy test result but still feel pregnant?
Some women often feel pregnant when in reality they’re not. Why is this?
This could be because they have been trying to get pregnant for months and think they are, when in fact they are not. If you browse the internet you will see hundreds of forums where many women have experienced this. They are often referred to as “imaginary symptoms”, you may well have experienced this yourself. IPS or Imaginary Pregnancy Symptoms are exactly what they sound like, it is when a woman thinks she is experiencing symptoms that suggest she is pregnant. IPS is not a medical term used by doctors, it is a common invented word across fertility forums. You’re most likely to feel anxious between ovulation and your expected period, you may imagine early pregnancy symptoms during this stage. Common symptoms are tender breasts, bloating, feeling emotional, cramping, cravings and fatigue. You want to be pregnant so much that you make your body believe you are.
Is feeling pregnant completely imaginary?
All of these feeling that you are experiencing are not in your head, they are real reactions to the hormones in your body. Your body is preparing for a possible pregnancy and it’s feeling optimistic even if the conception didn’t take place. Progesterone is one hormone that is responsible for the imaginary symptoms. Fertility drugs can trigger side effects that make your body believe you’re pregnant.
The only way to know is to wait after a negative pregnancy test
You can feel worse the more you focus on these symptoms, some women throw up every morning and assume they are pregnant, only to find out their not, while other women experience no pregnancy symptoms whatsoever and find out they are pregnant. The only way to know is by waiting, take a pregnancy test once you know you’ve missed your period.
