We are always looking for an easy way to lose weight right?
Drinking water is one of the easiest ways to aid weight loss combined with a healthy diet and exercise. Unfortunately drinking water alone won’t help if you are not watching what you eat, but it is at least one part of your diet plan that requires no will power!
Are you really hungry or just thirsty?
Quite often when you feel hungry and are about to reach for the biscuit tin your body is actually trying to let you know that you are thirsty. We often mistake the feeling of thirst for hunger and consequently consume extra calories. If you do feel hungry try to drink a glass of water before eating anything, if you do still feel hungry after having a drink then you can then have something to eat. If you do find that you’re now not hungry then you’ve replaced the biscuits with a zero calorie option.
So why does drinking water help with weight loss?
Water fills us up and can prevent us from eating too much. It’s a really good idea to drink a glass of water before each meal as it will deter you from overeating. Research has shown that drinking a glass of water before a meal helps us also to make better and healthier food choices.
Drinking ice cold water can also help to speed up your metabolism; your body needs to warm the cold water to body temperature as you drink which then speeds up your metabolism. It’s a great idea to get into the habit of drinking a couple of glasses of ice cold water as soon as you wake up in the morning.
Swap sugary drinks such as fruit juices and fizzy drinks for water- think of all the calories you will save.
Water helps with digestion and the absorption of food, if you don’t drink enough you could become constipated, and also not get the benefits of the nutrients from the food that you eat.
If you are feeling bloated and feel that you are carrying extra water weight, drink some water! If you drink more water your body may stop retaining it, your brain will receive a signal to say that the water is being replaced so it’s safe to expel the excess.
Water also lubricates our joints and helps maintain muscle and skin tone. Ok so not weight loss related but is relevant if you are a gym bunny!
Drinking water is certainly not the answer to all of our dieting problems, but it is a pretty effortless way to aid the weight loss process.
