Everyone loves a theme park whether you’re a child or adult; the thrill of the rollercoasters, stomach churning twists and turns, frights in a haunted house or the risk of getting totally soaked on the log flumes – you can’t fail to have an amazing day. With the UK having some of the best theme parks you could wish for, so you’re bound to find one near you which offers fun for all the family.Here is our list of the top five uk theme parks for all the family to enjoy.

Alton Towers

Is one of the best known theme parks in the UK with cutting edge rides such as Thirteen, Rita Queen of Speed, Air and Oblivion and new to 2013 comes ‘The Smiler’ featuring a vertical lift hill and a staggering fourteen inversions! Based in the midlands off Junction 23/24 of the M1, Alton Towers is set within acres of beautiful gardens and caters for all the family. There are sections of the park specifically for younger children and includes the amazing Charlie and The Chocolate Factory experience. With the big name thrill rides based in all over the park, there are also the stunning gardens and ruins of the old historic house to explore if you would rather keep your feet firmly on the ground. Alton Towers also has its own Hotel if you want your experience to last longer than just to the day and also boasts a Waterpark, an extraordinary 9 hole golf course and Spa.

Thorpe Park

Based off Junction 13 of the M1, Thorpe Park is home to the UKs most thrilling rides all in one location. It launched ‘SAW’ based on the horror movie of the same name, Stealth, Colossus, Nemesis Inferno and The Swarm which you can now ride backwards! It has a number of fantastic wet rides including Storm Surge and the UKs tallest log flume ‘Loggers Leap’ if you are willing to take your chances with the water! Thorpe Park also caters for younger members of the family with the Ranger County area being home to Mr Monkeys Banana Ride, spinning carousels and live shows throughout the day.

Chessington World of Adventure

Based in Surrey, is probably the ultimate theme park for all the family with a great mix of rides and activities to suit everyone. Head out to the Forbidden Kingdom where you can enjoy an interactive laser adventure in an Egyptian land or scream in terror as you ride on the Rameses Revenge. For first time roller coaster riders, the Runaway Train in the Mexicana village is an idea ride suitable for younger family members and will undoubtedly give them the roller coaster bug! There is a huge indoor play area in the Wild Asia sector and kids can ride the colourful Jungle Bus or have take a bump on the Tuk Tuk Turmoil dodgems. Chessington also has its own zoo where you can watch live shows and get up close and personal with the big cats and gorillas and the Sea Life Centre has a spectacular display of marine life for everyone to enjoy.

Drayton Manor

Set in the heart of England, Drayton Manor is the UKs largest family owned theme park and boasts some legendary rides such as Apocalypse, G-Force and Shockwave. It has a great variety of choice for kids in Thomas Land and Drayton Manor Zoo and new for 2013 is Ben 10 Ultimate Mission. The Action Park area is every thrill seekers dream where you can ride the stand up roller coaster (Shockwave) and see if you can handle the extreme forces of nature while on the giant Maelstrom. Arial Park is great for those with a good head for heights as you soar into the sky above the park and for those with nerves of steel, venture into the spooky haunted mansion that is ‘The Haunting’. The Zoo is usually open on the days when the park isn’t and you can see a range of exotic animals including endangered species.

Flamingo Land

Flamingo Land Resort is the only combined theme park, zoo and holiday village and is set in over 375 acres of parkland in the heart of North Yorkshire. You can start in the plains of The Lost Kingdom and make your way through to the weird and wonderful world of Splosh. Hold your nerve on the UKs first and only motorbike launch coaster or conquer the record breaking Mumbo Jumbo which features the worlds steepest drop!

Theme parks are great fun but they can also be expensive so shop around for discount deals or buy one get one free offers.
